The Excel Awards were announced during the American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA) 60th Annual Conference which was held in Reston, Virginia this past September. The awards recognize recipients in the following categories: Excellence in Publishing, Excellence in Marketing, Promotion, and Recruitment and Excellence in Community Service. In addition the Awards of Distinction include the Medical Assistant of the Year Award, Leadership and Mentoring Award and the Golden Apple.
Katelyn Camp from Elmira Business Institute in Vestal, New York was presented with the Medical Assistant of the Year Award for her exemplary service as a medical assistant and for showing a superior commitment to service that advances the medical assistant profession. Camp submitted an essay as part of her entry for the prestigious award. Candy Miller, CMA (AAMA) was awarded with the Leadership and Mentoring Award which is given to a volunteer leader who has exceeded expectations in meeting the AAMA’s objectives of promoting the medical assistant profession.
Cynthia Lundgren, BS, CMA (AAMA), PBT(ASCP) took home the Golden Apple Award for her contribution as an educator in the medical assistant program that is accredited by the Commission of Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs. Lundgren was nominated by her peers because of her exceptional dedication to medical assisting education.
All of the award winners were selected from entries that were submitted between June 1, 2015 and June 1, 2016.
The 60the Annual AAMA Annual Conference brought more than 600 medical assistant professionals together for four days of lectures, continuing education and workshops. Professionals had the opportunity to collaborate together on the industries current hot topics which included passing a Medicare audit, the medical assistant’s role in Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorders, sports and cardiac kids and court and medical documentation among many others.
The 2017 AAMA Annual Conference has been scheduled for October 6-9, 2017 in Cincinnati, Ohio.
