According to the Utah Department of Workforce Services, the median 2013 medical assistant salary in Utah was $28,144. Professionals entering the workforce earned $23,771 a year on average.

The medical assisting field is growing at a higher rate in Utah than predicted nationally. The Utah Department of Workforce Services projects an annual growth rate of 4% in the ten-year period leading up to 2022. Even higher rates of job growth are predicted for certain areas of Utah:
- Provo 8%
- Bear River 3%
- Central Utah 4%
Four hundred and ten medical assistant jobs a year are expected to become available in Utah during this time frame. More than 46% of these jobs will be in Salt Lake City, while 22% will be in Provo.
Utah had the fifth highest concentration of medical jobs in the country in 2013 according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS). In 2012, 6,880 medical assistants were employed in Utah according to the state’s Department of Workforce Services. Nearly half of them were located in the Salt Lake City Metro area.
More than 71% of Utah’s medical assistants worked in doctor’s offices. Fewer than 10% of them worked for other types of health care practitioners or in outpatient care centers.
